Library Focus: all
Libraries present special challenges when planning for sustainability. A library building’s life expectancy is far longer than the life cycle of a typical commercial building. Libraries also have to accommodate two very different (and somewhat incompatible) occupants, humans and information artifacts, both with very different environmental demands. Given these factors and the “public nature” of library buildings, planners and architects need to be aware of how “going green” for the library requires special thought and consideration.
