Performs moderately complex (journey-level) multimedia operation and production work. This is a temporary appointment ending September 30, 2022. Serves as primary creator of agency original video productions related to programs, projects, and resources. In consultation with the communications officer, work involves the design, preparation, and production of audiovisual materials using photographic, audio, and visual equipment. This position reports to the Assistant State Librarian. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


  • Plans, designs, and directs audiovisual productions.
  • Produces creative audio visual productions
  • Completes audio mastering, editing, effects, and mixing
  • Coordinates the installation and maintenance of technical equipment to record multimedia productions.
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies
  • Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures including safety and standards of conduct.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Assists in the design and evaluation of graphic programs or exhibits.
  • Assists with audiovisual equipment for training and public information presentations.


  • Graduation from High School or Equivalent
  • Two years of professional experience in audiovisual production and techniques.
  • Experience with PC software and hardware for production
  • Experience with standard desktop software.
  • Ability to operate audiovisual equipment; to interpret instrument and meter readings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints; and to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of video production, editing, recording, computer graphics, and animation; of quality multimedia; of the use and application of repair and maintenance test equipment and tools; of the kind, capacity, and purpose of voltage circuits, switches, fuses, instruments, and meters associated with electronic equipment; and of instructional methods and techniques.
  • Skill in the use of production, recording, developing, testing, and maintenance of audiovisual equipment; and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
  • Ability to operate audiovisual equipment; to interpret instrument and meter readings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints; and to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to self-shoot


  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in radio, television, film, communications, or a related field is generally preferred.
  • Experience producing state agency or non-profit films.
  • Experience filming and editing videos and multimedia films
  • Experience scripting and directing videos
  • Experience with Adobe Premier Pro
  • Experience collaborating with clients
  • Experience with managing production scheduling and making production arrangements
  • Experience developing multi media products for social media
  • Experience researching and interviewing subjects.
  • Experience creating films related to Texas history, literature, library or archives.
  • Experience with graphic design and layout.

This position requires the applicant to be able to set up and transport all audio and visual reporting equipment, lights, and related tools.


  • Submit complete college transcripts.
  • Submit portfolio of video and film productions, writing samples including scripts, graphics, and any other relevant materials
  • Applicants selected for interview will be required to provide a 10-minute overview describing how they would approach filming an assigned topic. The topic will be provided at the time of the interview.
  • Travel by airplane and personal auto required; estimate 10% of time.

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours may change based on business needs.
